The Cross that turns over the Southern Cross, telling wanderers under the vast skies of Australia of the passing of night and the coming of dawn. This is the story of one of these wanderers, Barbie Gazabon, who finds herself, in her early twenties, left alone by the death of her father. Knowing no background but the rough, knockabout existence she has shared with him, she has to make her own way and build a life for herself out of loneliness. Tough and a fighter, at home in a man's world, Barbie is still a true woman, loving and loveable. She gives her warmth and affection to the odd assortment of friends she makes along the road, and her passionate devotion to the man of her choice. Against the vivid and sometimes violent background of outback Australia, through the independent isolated communities of opal fields, wheat districts and old mining towns, she goes her way, meeting laughter and hardship, suffering and joy, and watching always to see the Cross turn over. Hardback Ed with dustjacket 1957. Good Condition with small tears at top of dust jacket on the spine.
