Having enjoyed the hospitality and great food and wines of the Fleurieu Peninsula region for many years, George and Jodie decided to investigate the possibility of a “lifestyle property” where their children could grow up enjoying and emulating their outdoorsy, fun, country childhoods. Jodie's idea was a beach retreat at Port Willunga where she could sit on the veranda with the latest issue of Conde Nast Traveller magazine (yes, she can dream) kids happily playing on the beach and beach walks with our loyal Staffy, Tex. Unbeknownst to her (but in hindsight not surprising), George’s idea was a property on the banks of the Murray River where he could enjoy skiing – a sport he loved as a teen.
One fateful day in December 2015, George came home and made the announcement that he had purchased said lifestyle property, but it came with a catch – an 88 acre vineyard fronting the Finniss River at Currency Creek!! Family laughed “yep, and Pigs Might Fly too”, “What a Pie in the Sky idea”, you are “Off with the Fairies” and "are you running with the Hares or Hunting with the Hounds" were some of the sayings bandied around that evening. Family did eventually adapt and now affectionately call said vineyard “George’s Folly”.
Initially planted for bulk grape supply to large wineries (which is still the mainstay of the property), George decided to graft the Riesling grapes over some varietals which could be made into the wines we enjoy today, and we now have a little patch which includes Roussanne, Nero d’Avola, Montepulciano and Sauvignon Gris, and in their infancy, Primativo and Saperavi. We haven't stopped there though, we are toying with the idea of planting several other Italian varietals in the next few years.
And so our foray into the wine industry was born!
And, whilst we affectionately call the vineyard “George’s Folly”, we take it all pretty seriously as we like to drink and enjoy what we produce! As for the relaxing and skiing …. certainly not as much as we’d like!
RETURNS & REFUNDS
Our customers are important to us, and we want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. We are not required to provide a refund or replacement if you change your mind, however, you can choose a refund or exchange if an item has a major problem. This is when the item:
- has a problem that would have stopped you from buying the item if you had known about it
- is unsafe
- is significantly different from the sample or description
- does not do what we said it would, or what you asked for and cannot be easily fixed.
All products returned must be complete, in original packaging and as new. The customer must retain proof of purchase and proof of delivery for returned products. Incomplete or incorrect information may delay or cause your return to be rejected.
If you need to return an item, please contact us via email with your order number and details about the product you would like to return. We will respond quickly with instructions on how to return items from your order.
SHIPPING
Orders will be dispatched within one business day providing all items are in stock. Orders will be delivered via Australia post or Sendle. Upon parcel dispatch you will receive a tracking number, so you can see when to expect delivery of your parcel.
GIFT CARDS
Gift vouchers are valid for 3 years from the date of issuance. Gift vouchers are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash in part or full. They may not be sold or transferred and cannot be
redeemed to purchase gift cards. The terms and conditions of this gift card may be amended at any time at the discretion of George's Folly Wines and shall be binding on the customer. No replacement for lost or stolen gift vouchers.
