Was the convict port of Botany Bay to be the journey's end for young Jenny Taggart? Her father long dead, murdered by the landlord; she and her mother were thrown off their land. They fled to London, as so many other poor country people were forced to do, unprepared for what they would find there. She grew up in a pub, frequented by thieves of all descriptions. After her mother's tragic imprisonment for harbouring a highwayman, it seemed that nothing worse could befall Jenny, until she herself was wrongly accused of receiving stolen goods and sentenced to be transported as a convict to New South Wales.
